Project Role:In preparation for design competition entry, prepared a sustainable design outline for the overall design; lead the design for the new Food Services and Kindergarten buildings and completed 3d computer models; coordinated with local staff on production of master plan model; collated and prepared all final presentation materials; and made final presentation to the design jury.
Completion:Competition entry was presented to jury in December 2012.
The design competition included overall master planning and three new buildings for a French school located in downtown Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The entry included designs for a new Kindergarten center, a new Food Services Center, and a Gymnasium / Theatre building. Strong efforts were made to provide a comprehensive sustainability vision for the campus that included: storm water management and rainwater retention/reuse systems; energy conservation systems (including careful consideration of solar orientation and building materials for reduction in solar heat gain); and improved indoor environment quality. A network of gardens and outdoor teaching / leisure areas was woven through the ground level to provide opportunities for environmental education activities and greater connection to nature. Folding and sliding doors allowed for a stronger connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Competition entry was awards first runner-up.
